Ale joined Spensa in 2013 and brings over 15 years of experience in electronics and electro-mechanical systems. He received his BS in Electromechanical Engineering from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic. His areas of expertise include modeling, designing and implementing electro-mechanical systems, measurements and instrumentation architecture, virtual instruments, electrical CAD, sensor design & calibration (i. e. infrared, ultrasonic, piezo-electric, bioimpedance), and product design from system prototyping and testing to integration. Ale continues to inspire the world with his revolutionary work in flying insect detection and classification, and tireless service in Christian apologetic.
Anderson Nascimento

In the quest of fulfilling his dream of building autonomous robots for world domination, Anderson joined Spensa in 2010. For now, he is focusing on embedded systems design and programming. Anderson received his BS degree in Computer Engineering from Purdue University.
Ben Brame

Ben started working with Spensa in 2010 when his software development company, Allegro Dynamics, partnered with Spensa to build the Z-Trap web interface and the MyTraps service. Ben founded Allegro in 2009 while doing graduate work at Purdue. Allegro partners with technology startups to build software products and bring them to market. In 2012, Ben joined Spensa to allow him to focus on MyTraps and to become better integrated with the team. Ben's interests include user interface design, web and mobile software architecture, image processing, and home coffee roasting.

Bill joined Spensa in 2016 after spending five years teaching high school in China. Before that, he worked for a series of startups and academic research labs in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He grew up in rural Illinois, went to college in Boston, and enjoys agriculture of every technology level.

Dr. Chad Aeschliman

Chad joined Spensa in 2014, having spent the previous six years doing research in machine learning, computer vision, and automotive radar. He loves taking new ideas from initial concept through to implementation. At Spensa, Chad provides technical direction for our hardware products and is also the driving force behind our data analytics. Outside of work, he enjoys reading and playing with his three kids. Chad got his PhD from Purdue in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

David Daniels
Data Scientist
David joined Spensa in 2015 to help with algorithm and model implementation. He loves Spensa because of the people, the variety of work and learning opportunities, and the ability to make a positive impact in the world. The most important thing to him is his relationship with Christ. He enjoys his various shared ministries with his wife, and simulating thrill rides for his four children. In his spare time, he reads the Bible, studies theology, plays the piano and guitar, and works toward a Ph.D. in mathematics. He enjoys sharing the many beautiful facts about combinatorics, probability and infinity.

Ed has over 15 years of experience leading projects in software and IT infrastructure industries, and has extensive experience consulting for Fortune 500 companies. He most recently served as a project director for the research computing center of Purdue University. Ed joined Spensa in 2014 and brought his passion for nurturing and optimizing high-performing teams. Ed has an MBA from the Krannert School of Business at Purdue University, along with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering also from Purdue.

Germán is a PhD candidate in the School of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University with more that 15 years of experience in Sensors and Automation. His research interest includes Computer Vision and Robotic Visual Servoing, Measurement and Instrumentation, Quality Control and Inspection, and Industrial-Academic liaisons. He lives in Colombia, where he is an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira.

Educated in communications and English, Huw chose instead to professionally pursue his passion for web design and graphic arts. He has worked in the Purdue Research Park for 15 years as a web designer, graphic artist, industrial designer, and technical writer, joining the Spensa team in late 2015. Huw enjoys drawing and illustration, 1980s computers and software (particularly text adventure games), and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Ian fell in love with programming in third grade when he got the chance to experiment with the school's Apple IIc. Decades later, he still loves Apple platforms and presently specializes in iOS development, which he has been doing since launching his first app in 2008. When he's not programming (a rare occurrence), Ian enjoys learning languages (both human and computer), various extreme sports, and traveling the world.

Jason Tennenhouse

Jason Tennenhouse considers himself a design strategist and serial entrepreneur. He has built strategies, created brands, patented products internationally, and constructed spaces for hundreds of ventures of all sizes and across dozens of sectors. He has also founded toy companies, restaurants, non-profits, innovation spaces, and think tanks where he has hired hundreds of employees and raised tens of millions in seed capital. Jason particularly values social impact work. In addition to being a Firefighter and Department of Homeland Security Incident Commander, a published author and public speaker, and an adjunct professor, he has helped start initiatives supporting such things as public art, literacy, healthcare, hunger, and clean water.

Johnny founded Spensa in 2009 in recognition of the need in the agricultural industry for increased production efficiency. He is passionate about agricultural innovation that will reduce reliance on manual labor, foster eco-friendly farming, and enhance crop production efficiency. He is also a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University with over $5 million research funds raised in the last 5 years. Johnny received his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees all from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University.

Jon Wright
Project Manager
Jon has over 10 years of experience managing technical teams and leading complex IT projects. Before joining Spensa in 2016, Jon served as a project director for the Network for Computational Nanotechnology at Purdue University. One of Jon's primary interests is bringing people together to create useful technical products that help improve people's quality of life. A bit of a renaissance man, Jon has an M.A. & B.A. in History and a B.S in Interdisciplinary Science, all from Purdue. When not managing projects at Spensa Jon serves as a limited-term lecturer for the Brian Lamb School of Communications at Purdue teaching an undergraduate course on presenting and writing about scientific research and is Event Coordinator for the Purdue Alumni Club of Tippecanoe County.

Kim Nicholson

Kim has over 25 years in the agribusiness and speciality chemical industries. Kim recently served as President of the Consumer Products division of Chemtura where she managed the global enterprise consisting of 900 employees in North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand with 5 dedicated manufacturing facilities. Before joining Chemtura she held the position of VP of Sales and Marketing of Nutra-Park, Inc., a biotech firm specializing in plant growth regulators. Prior to Nutra-Park, Inc. Kim served as Director of Global Supply Chain for BASF where she managed project groups in Europe and the Americas. She joined BASF as National Sales Manager for the US crop protection division.

A Texas native, she is driven by the desire to make an enjoyable experience for the end user through refined interfaces and excellent visual styles. Kris enjoys combining her visual arts training with design thinking and marketing to develop intuitive solutions. When not rearranging interface layouts or designing ad campaign materials, she enjoys sketching, painting, and retro gaming.

An avid civic engager, Zachary also enjoys cycling, modular synthesizers, theatre, and conversation.

Ever since Zachary took his first Computer Science class, he was hooked. Approaching programming challenges has always been part logic-puzzle, part art-project for Zachary. After spending 5 years in the secondary classroom teaching Physics, Engineering and Computer Science, Zachary joined Spensa to create a Hadoop cluster to allow for better analysis of agricultural data. When not programming, Zachary enjoys reading, ultimate frisbee, an occasional video game, and playing with his beautiful daughters.
